Visualize snapshot churn, identify noisy volumes, and stop paying for invisible data growth.
Read-only access · No agents required · Works with AWS Backup
AWS gives you snapshots. It doesn't show you what's actually changing.
AWS snapshots are incremental, but you can't see the actual delta sizes in the console.
The snapshot size shown isn't what you're billed for. Actual costs depend on changed blocks.
Noisy volumes silently accumulate storage costs. Small daily changes add up fast.
Three steps to snapshot clarity
Provide read-only IAM credentials. SnapTrace never modifies your infrastructure.
We reconstruct the incremental relationships between your EBS snapshots.
View per-volume churn metrics, identify noisy volumes, and understand true costs.
Built for AWS engineers who need answers, not dashboards
Uses EBS Direct APIs to read actual changed blocks, not filesystem estimates.
Analyzes snapshots created by AWS Backup, manual snapshots, or any other source.
Read-only API access. No filesystem mounting, no EC2 access, no modifications.
Start free and scale as you grow. No hidden fees, no surprises.

Everything you need to know about SnapTrace and EBS snapshot optimization.
EBS snapshot churn analysis identifies volumes with high data change rates between snapshots. High churn volumes consume more storage and cost more money. SnapTrace helps you find these 'noisy' volumes so you can optimize your snapshot strategy and reduce AWS bills.
SnapTrace uses AWS IAM cross-account roles with minimal read-only permissions. You can set this up in minutes using our CloudFormation template or manual IAM configuration. We never store your AWS credentials—only the role ARN for secure access.
SnapTrace requires read-only access to EC2 (describe volumes, snapshots, instances) and CloudWatch metrics. We follow the principle of least privilege and never request write or delete permissions on your resources.
Absolutely. SnapTrace only reads metadata about your snapshots and volumes—we never access the actual data stored in your EBS volumes. All connections use TLS encryption, and we follow enterprise-grade security practices.
Most customers see 20-40% reduction in snapshot storage costs after optimizing their high-churn volumes. Savings depend on your current snapshot strategy and the number of noisy volumes in your infrastructure.
Yes! SnapTrace supports multi-account analysis. The Free plan includes 1 AWS account, Starter supports up to 3, and Pro allows up to 20 connected AWS accounts from a single dashboard.
The Free plan includes analysis for 1 AWS account and up to 20 volumes, with a 30-day insights window. You get full access to snapshot change-rate analysis and high-cost volume identification. It's perfect for individuals getting started with snapshot optimization.
The insights window determines how far back SnapTrace analyzes your snapshot data. For example, a 30-day insights window means you'll see detailed block-level churn analysis for snapshots created in the last 30 days. You'll still see all your snapshots in the dashboard, but detailed churn metrics (changed blocks, delta size) are only available within your plan's insights window. Upgrading your plan extends this window—Starter offers 90 days, Pro offers 1 year.
SnapTrace runs analysis hourly, with data refreshed automatically. You can also trigger manual analysis anytime from the dashboard.
